For Dum Aloo

  • 10-15 baby Potatoes
  • 1/4 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 3-4 tbsp Oil to Shallow Fry Potatoes

For Gravy

  • 10 Cashews
  • 1 Medium Sized Onion
  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 1 Green Chili
  • 1/4 inch Ginger
  • 1/4 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Green Chili
  • 1/2 tbsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 tbsp Kasturi Methi
  • 1 Glass Water
  • Salt to Taste


Insturctions for Dum Aloo

  1. Boil and peel off baby potatoes. Prick them with fork.

  2. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt on the potatoes, Mix them well.

  3. Heat oil in a pan to shallow fry potatoes. You may also deep fry potatoes.

  4. Add potatoes in pan and fry them until they become golden brown in color and then take out the potatoes and place them in a bowel.

Instructions for Gravy

  1. Grind onion, tomatoes, cashews, ginger and green chilly to make a fine paste.

  2. Heat oil in the pan. Add cumin seeds, fry them until they splutter. Then add paste prepared in above step. Stir it occasionally, until oil separates from the gravy.

  3. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir it well fro 2-3 minutes.

  4. Add a glass of water or according to the consistency of gravy required. Mix kasturi methi into this.

  5. Then add fried baby potatoes into this gravy. Cover it with lid for 5-10 minutes. 

  6. Your dum aloos are ready to be served hot with naan, pranthas or roti.
