Idli is a South Indian breakfast cuisine that is very healthy. It can be cooked using rice or rawa (Semolina). Fermented rice is not that healthy so its good to cook Idli using Rawa also called as Sooji. As Idli is generally served with sambar or coconut chutney, I will explain here how to cook Masala Idli in just 15-20 minutes for breakfast. This recipe is very delicious and you can easily cook it at home.
Idli is a very healthy South Indian breakfast dish. It can be made using rice or rawa (Semolina). In my recipe, I'll be using rawa as it is more healthy as compared to fermented rice.
- 200 gm Rawa
- 200 gm Curd
- 1 Chopped Carrot
- 2 Chopped Onion
- 1 Chopped Capsicum
- 2 Chopped Tomato
- 1/2 tbsp Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 Cup Water
- 1/2 tbsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tbsp Red Chili Powder
- Salt to Taste
Mix 200 gm of Rawa and 200 gm of Curd. Add some water to make the consistent batter.
Then mix finely chopped vegetables like carrot, onion, capsicum, tomato. Leave the batter for 5-10 minutes.
Add 1/2 tbsp of baking soda, 1 tbsp of baking powder and some salt to taste.
Grease Idli stands with some oil. Then pour batter into greased plates.
Steam Idlis for about 10-15 minutes on medium flame or until cooked. If you are using the microwave then 5 minutes are enough to steam Idlis.
Use a knife to check whether Idlis are cooked properly or not. If the knife comes out clean that means Idli is cooked.
Meanwhile, you are cooking Idlis, take some oil in a pan. Fry onion till golden brown then mix 1 finely chopped tomato and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add some salt to taste, red chili powder, turmeric powder to make masala.
Once Idlis are cooked, serve them with masala you prepared.
- You can also use Eno instead of Baking soda.
