Whole Wheat Bread Recipe

Ingredients for Sponge

  1. Whole Wheat Flour (One Cup)
  2. Warm Water (One Cup)
  3. Maple Syrup (Two Tablespoon)
  4. Active Yeast (One Tablespoon)

Ingredients for Bread

  1. Whole Wheat Flour (Two Cups)
  2. Salt (One Tablespoon)
  3. Oil (Two Tablespoon)
  4. Lemon Juice (1.5 Tablespoon)
  5. Ground Cumin (One Quarter Tablespoon)
  6. Water ( Two Tablespoon)
  7. Oil Butter (As required)


  1. To prepare sponge, mix all the given ingredients in a bowl for five minutes to make batter.
  2. Leave the mixture aside for one hour in a warm place.
  3. Add the sponge batter in a stand mixer and add two cups of flour and salt.
  4. Knead for a minute and add oil, lemon juice, cumin, and water. Now knead for five more minutes.
  5. After five minutes, check if the dough needs some more flour or water.
  6. Keep aside the dough for 20 minutes.
  7. Shape the dough into a rectangle and place it in a well greased bread pan.
  8. Spray some water on top and add sesame seeds or oats.
  9. Cover the dough using a fresh towel and leave it for another 50 minutes.
  10. Now bake the dough for 40 minutes in a preheated oven at 350 degree F.
  11. Once baked, grease the bread from the top with oil or vegan butter.
  12. Slice the bread using a knife after one hour.
